Holiday Movie Preview

December is a big month for movies. Studios have one more chance to turn over a profit before the year ends and many family-friendly films are released to entice children who will drag their parents to the theater over their Holiday Break. Add in some worthy Oscar contenders and you have something throughout the month for everyone.

Black Swan: December 3, 2010
Sypnosis: Starring Mila Kunis (That 70′s Show) and Natalie Portman (Star Wars), it’s a supernatural thriller set in the world of New York City ballet. When Natalie Portman’s character starts seeing her double, she thinks the pressure of her big upcoming performance is weighing down on her, but something more than just pressure could ruin her debut.
Why To See It: One of the ‘worthy Oscar contenders,’ Natalie Portman is said to give a fantastic performance and with Oscar-winning director Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, Requiem For A Dream) helming the project, it is sure to be a thrilling film.

The Chronicles Of Narnia: Voyage Of The Dawn Treader: December 10, 2010
Sypnosis: The third film in the Chronicles of Narnia series is one that has been long-awaited. Based on one of the most popular Narnia books, it follows the two younger Pevensie siblings and their cousin as they once again return to Narnia. On a mission to rescuing seven lost lords, they must save Narnia from a corrupting evil that lives on a dark island.
Why To See It: The Narnia movies have always been fun, adventurous films. When Disney studios decided to drop their share in the upcoming sequel, Walden Media sought out 20th Century Fox to help them produce the film. The producers have promised that this film will deliver, straying from the complications they experienced during the second film, Prince Caspian.

The Tourist: December 10, 2010
Sypnosis: Johnny Depp is visiting Venice, Italy to mend a broken heart, but when he crosses paths with a mysterious woman (Angelina Jolie), he is suddenly the target of various forces, including gangsters and federal agents. Soon, the two people are caught up together in a situation they never expected to be in, something they have to get out of together.
Why To See It: Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp are always fantastic and along with the beautiful backdrop of Venice, Italy, this is sure to be a crowd-pleasing film. Part action, part comedy, part love story, this film can contain something for anyone. This is more of a fun-loving blockbuster than anything else.

Tron: Legacy: December 17, 2010
Sypnosis: Years ago, 27 year old Sam Flynn’s father mysteriously went missing. When he goes to investigate a mysterious signal coming from his father’s old and unused office, he goes to investigate and in thrust into a vast digital universe. All created by his father, the world has technologies and landscapes the likes of which have never been seen.
Why To See It: The terribly awesome original film, Tron, came out in the 1980s, supposedly one of the most advance special-effects film of it’s time. With this new addition to the Tron universe, though, the special-effects have been taken to a whole new level. This is sure to be an eye-pleasing film, especially with the addition of it’s 3D format.

Yogi Bear: December 17, 2010
Sypnosis: Jellystone Park, the place where the infamous bears Boo-Boo (Justin Timberlake) and Yogi Bear (Dan Akroyd) reside, is celebrating it’s 100th anniversary, but, with the looming prospect of the mayor shutting it down and selling the land, Yogi and Boo-Boo have to figure out some way to save the park. Uniting with Park Ranger Smith, they do whatever they can to stop the park from closing forever.
Why To See It: Another film to be released in 3D, fans of the iconic character Yogi Bear will get to see him in an all new and updated way. Surely parents will be convinced into taking their kids to see this movie, which mixes live-action with CGI created characters.

True Grit: December 22, 2010
Sypnosis: After the murder of her father, 14 year old Mattie Ross decides to go on a quest to avenge his death. Accompanied by an alcoholic marshal Rooster Cogburn, they go after the outlawed drifter Tom Chaney.
Why To See It: Directed by Oscar-winning filmmakers, the Coen brothers, and starring Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges, and Josh Brolin, this re-do of the classic American Western film is adapted from the 1968 novel of the same name by Charles Portis.

Little Fockers: December 22, 2010
Sypnosis: The iconic characters from Meet The Parents and Meet The Fockers, but this time Ben Stiller’s character, Gaylord Focker, is the father of two twins. All characters soon become reunited, including Pamela Focker’s uptight father, Jack (played by Robert De-Niro).
Why To See It: Ben Stiller and Robert De-Niro have always been able to play off of each other well, as seen in the first two films. The writer from the acclaimed first two films returns as well, promising just as many laughs as the first ones.
