Choir Performs a Classic Concert

On Tuesday, April 14, the choir took on new challenges and switched up their routine. It made the audience feel a number of emotions in just two hours. From the tranquility of the harmonious unison, to the head-bobbing rhythm, the choirs also added a hint of holiness to their performances as well.

The first break-away from tradition was that, the concert started off with the Bella Voce instead of varsity. They sang three different songs. The twist? Each song was in a different language consisting of Japanese, Latin, and English.

Concert choir took the stage singing three songs as well. Their songs “Hey Ho” and “Who Has Seen The Wind?” were in English except for the strongly sung Cantate Domino which was in Latin. That entertaining performance collaborated with drum line members to add beat to the melody, that left the audience feeling the beat and tapping their feet. It was different in tone, language, and even had a different pianist other than the usual Dr. Andrews. Tracy Carroll took over while Andrews conducted the choir.

A Capella Women’s choir performed in all English, but incorporated religion at the end of their limelight. They performed a version of Psalm 23 with effortless grace and compassion.

Chamber choir sung a classical Latin narrative poem by the Roman poet Ovid, titled “Metamorphosis” right after Dr. Andrews read aloud a transcribed version of the title in English. The audience was then able to track and understand parts of the performance, with the knowledge of the initial translated poem in mind, from the tone of the students’  voices.

The songs that the choirs performed during their concert will be the same ones they will feature in their UIL competition on Tuesday April 21, 2015.
