Students walk into room U10 and notice the Led Zeppelin posters. Then, they notice Byron Barrett, a teacher who is known and loved by many MHS students for his dedication to creating a fun and productive learning environment.
Mr. Barrett teaches astronomy at MHS. He also sponsors several school clubs.
“Kite Club is always open on Tuesdays” said Barrett.
On, Wednesdays, Barrett sponsors Chess Club.
“The kids play each other,” said Barrett, “and occasionally, I’ll be merciful and let them win or draw against me.”
On any given Thursday, Barrett’s classroom is filled with the edgy sounds of electric guitarists showing off their skills.
“Students come to play their guitars, mainly electric guitars, but occasionally we will have an acoustic player,” said Barrett.
Having taught at MHS for several years, Barrett has had many a humorous experience.
“The funniest thing that has happened to me at school was when they asked me to dance with Ms. Lovelace in a pep rally, I was dressed in a suit and she was dressed like a princess.” said Barrett. ” I found that very funny.”
Despite Barrett’s ability to sponsor three clubs on top of teaching, he is only human.
“At the end of the school day, I feel exhausted,” said Barrett, “but it is completely worth it because I think young people are cool!”
Mr. Barrett is most definitly the coolest teacher at the school!
