National Title for Varsity Cheerleaders

The varsity competitive cheerleading squad is celebrating their national championship status.
Mansfield’s varsity cheer squad took home the first place trophy from the ACA National High School Championships Jan. 15-16. Twenty varsity cheerleaders adjusted their eyeshadow and hair bows before they would take the floor for their most exciting performance of the year.
“After putting on our make-up we would get in a circle and get all pumped up, we would dance to “Party In The USA” and then go to the warm-up room,” Senior Chelsea Reynolds said. But even she would admit, the nerves always showed up for her and the rest of the squad.
“After we performed we felt pretty good, we really thought we had a chance.” Reynolds said. There were four other teams in the division competing against Mansfield for the national title.
“[Winning first place] felt amazing, we worked hard and it paid off,” senior Kaleigh Dennis said. The team has been practicing since September to perfect their routine.
Cheerleading coach Sylvia Franze is beginning her fifth year at Mansfield and this is the squads second first place win. The first was in 2006.
