The XLIX Super Bowl just recently came on and while many people watch it because their favorite team is playing or the iconic commercials, a vast majority of people watch it for the halftime show. This year the Super Bowl decided to have Katy Perry perform during halftime for the millions of viewers across the nation.

Initially, Perry quickly caught her audience’s attention by riding a tiger out on stage singing one of her more recent songs, “Roar.” The tiger could have been mistaken for a lion because it looked like it had a mane. Whether it was a lion or tiger, she still came out looking fierce and ready to put on a good halftime show. Next, she moved onto the stage where she performed another one of her recent songs, “Dark Horse.” Her set-up for the stage during this song imitated a chess board and it had different movements and graphics that were very impressive. The graphics used on this specific part of her performance showed off the creative mind-set that she and all the people who contributed had. Immediately after the artist showed off her creative abilities, she welcomed musician, singer, and actor Lenny Kravitz out on stage. Kravitz and Perry then took the audience back to Perry’s first hit “I Kissed a Girl” with a little rock ‘n’ roll twist on the song. Having Kravitz join Perry in this song was smart, due to the fact it allowed the older audience to see a slightly familiar face and it also made the halftime show more enjoyable for a diverse audience.

After the collaboration, Perry made an amazing quick change from her fiery outfit to an extremely cheerful dress that fit the beach-inspired set that was in place for her next couple of songs. The background consisted of different elements that could be found at a beach, like sharks, beach balls, and palm trees that all possessed animated eyes and mouths. She began singing her song “Teenage Dream,” which threw the audience off a little bit because of the outfit she had on and the background. After that song, she then moved on to her song “California Girls,” which fit the stage background better and made more sense. It would have more practical if she had started out with “California Girls” then moved to “Teenage Dream” because it would have correlated with the outfits and stage presentation.

All of Perry’s minimal flaws were forgiven when rap legend Missy Elliot came out and surprised the audience and assisted Perry in the end part of her halftime show. Elliot began with her song “Get Ur Freak On” and Perry tried her best to keep up with her. Perry was jumping around and having a good time, but looked slightly out of place with the new vibe that was added to the stage and seemed to have forgotten how to move her body to the rhythm of the song. The confusion continued through Elliot’s second song “Work It,” which proved that the choreography for this part of the performance was just too much for Perry.

Elliot did her last song “Lose Control,” which was one of her hits that easily made the crowd want to get up and dance. During this time, Perry left to get changed and strapped onto a star mobile in order to end her performance with a bang with her song “Firework.” She then ascended above the audience and was flying around the stadium in this “shooting star” while actual fireworks were going off over the stadium. Perry did a great job with ending her halftime performance because she truly implemented “wow” factors that sparked the audience’s senses.

Overall, Katy Perry did a great job with her halftime show performance. There was nothing that could cause controversy or scandal, it was just a fun halftime show for everyone watching. Perry was able to connect with her fans and different types of people through her songs which made it feel like a concert. With the help of Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot, Katy Perry was able to execute a very enjoyable halftime show.
