“This has been an absolutely great first day,” Principal Cynthia McCallum said, “The smoothest in 5 years.”

McCallum said this year is going to be much more focused on the individual student, starting with the initiation of a Freshman Academy, which splits up all ninth graders into smaller, more personal groups of students and teachers. McCallum started this program in hopes that “freshmen don’t slip through the cracks.”

The reason for this and other small changes, such as smaller and more frequent teacher conferences, McCallum says, is  due to proof that more individualized attention contributes to higher test scores and overall success in high school students.
