The Mansfield girls golf team starts in two weeks and the players are more ready than ever. With 9 returning lettermen, and 9 other girls joining the golf team this year, the team feels confident for the new season. They’ve all been working very hard this summer with tournaments, lessons, and lots of practice.
“I’m really ready for golf this year because I feel like our team is stronger emotionally and physically. Golf is just really fun all around; not just because of the game, but because my two best friends, Kat and Sarah are on the team with me,” junior golfer Tucker Coursey said.
The first tournament for girls varsity golf starts in Lubbock at the TTU Rawls golf course and Shadow Hills golf course on September 24and 25. The first JV tournament is on the 22nd at Mansfield National Golf Course.
“We practice everyday usually for at least 3 hours at the country club. Since I’m in the golf class last block everyday, I get out of school earlier than most people to go practice,” returning letterman, Sarah Fulton said.
Like every other sport, the golf team has to condition and maintain physical stability.
“We have to run Mondays and Fridays a mile or a mile and a half, and since I’m the coaches’ daughter, my dad expects me to run harder than everyone,” Coursey said.
The golf team is more than ready for their fall and spring season this school year, and they can’t wait for the season to actually start.
“Golf is really stressful sometimes, but in the end of a good tournament, I know it’s worth it,” Fulton said.
