Student Designs Clothing Line

Aspirations of being a prominent person in the world usually start in high school and the ability to go forth and carry out your dreams, while in high school, is just as amazing. Senior Mason Galindo, has started to build a platform for himself early, by starting his own t-shirt brand, Youth Distinction.

“I like clothes and I’ve always liked making stuff, so like put the two together and I just started making clothes,” said Galindo. “Like a year ago, I got this idea and I started making shirts for myself, then I started selling them.”

Since his shirts are self-designed there is a lot of work that is put into the shirt. The process to create the design and print it out to the shirt takes up time and requires dedication in order to have a perfect outcome.

“First, I draw it all out then I sit on it awhile to make sure the design is perfect, then I take it to get printed, and after I press the shirts in my garage,” said Galindo.

To come up with ideas such as Youth Distinction, Galindo looks up to people with his similar outlook and goals in life.

“I really look up to Kanye West and Tyler the Creator, mostly because of their music and their brands, and also fashion designers since I’ve been to a few fashion shows like Tommy Hilfiger in New York,” said Galindo.

His t-shirts are self-designed and also one of a kind that speak a certain message of empowerment. His latest design “Embrace the Youth” is more of a way for him to express that the youth is the future and their ideas must be shared and listened too.

“I want people to know that they can just do whatever they want,” Galindo said.”Be creative and not care what other people say as long as [you] like what they’re doing.”

With his brand only beginning, Galindo is trying to branch out to get more interested customers, and still keeps plans for the future of Youth Distinction in mind too.

“Hopefully I can start making hats, and maybe like a couch set and a coffee table,” Galindo said.”[I want to] branch out and do lots of things.”
