Sherlock Recap

February 5, 2016

Unless you’re a fan of the BBC version of Sherlock Holmes, then you might not have known about the special showing of its Christmas showing in theaters. Although the special Sherlock episode was only in theaters for two days, it was a master piece and for Sherlock fans it gave a little taste of what is to come. Out of 5 stars it was definitely a 6, now let me tell you why.

The story written by Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss, and Stephen Thompson was truly a masterpiece. It has a tricky concept that could have gone tragically wrong, if it was not for the wonderful acting and storyline. The unique setting seen with BBC Sherlock takes place in the 1800’s instead of modern day. It did not stay in that timeline as it switched back and forth from modern day to the 1800’s. The two different mysteries eventually tied together in the end. All of this was to help Sherlock know about how Moriarty is still alive after season 2’s ending only to reaper in the last few minutes of season 3 with the famous lines “Did you miss me?”. Even though it answers a question that viewers had, it leaves them desperately waiting for season 4.

Not only did the writers make sure to include little details from the original Sherlock Holmes books, but they switched from the modern day to the 1800’s in such a skillful way. The storyline had its viewers holding their breath and sitting at the edge of their seats. It had everyone on edge, waiting to see what was behind each and every corner that Sherlock and his friend ,Watson, went around.

Nevertheless, the story might not have been as successful if it were not for the talented actors. Benedict Cumberbatch, the actor for Sherlock, and Martin Freeman, the actor for Watson, brought their characters to life on the big screen. They brought the story to life, causing its watchers to question what was really going on.

I have given it the rating of 6 out of 5 stars because of the talent, skill, and thought that was put into the beautiful piece of work. It was an episode that Sherlock fans have been waiting for years to recieve. Now,  if only 2017 would just come sooner and bring Sherlock season 4 along with it to solve the newer mysteries of what Moriarty has left Sherlock to deal with.
