As new teachers start their year at Mansfield High School, parents and students will be able to meet them at the “Meet the Teacher” night on Tuesday.
“I’ve taught at Legacy High School and before that I taught at Chisholm Trail High School in Sacramento,” social studies teacher Zachary Hallack said. “I think all Mansfield schools are good. I think they just have their own individual culture.”
MHS is welcoming more than 28 new teachers across 11 subjects including band, foreign language and coaching. Special Education is receiving the most new teachers this year, with 10 new staff members joining. English is second with four new teachers.
“My mom was a teacher, so I kind of followed that path,” Hallack said. “I wanted to coach and enjoyed history, so I majored in history, so I just kind of fell into it.”
The “Meet the Teacher” night allows parents and students to visit the campus and talk to teachers outside of the classroom.
“Coach Hubbard’s class is laid back with a focus on independent reading,” senior Luke Pfanstiel said. “For Mr. McClendon, his class is very different because he is so young.”
The school is welcoming a mix of veteran teachers and those who are just starting their career.
“I graduated from the University of North Texas in May,” percussion teacher Ethan Disney said. “I worked at Flower Mound High School, but that was my only teaching job before here.”
Some teachers for subjects like American Sign Language and band will teach at multiple schools in the district.
“I teach for the Mansfield High School cluster,” Disney said. “I teach two periods at Mansfield High, then I do one period at Mary Orr Intermediate and two periods at Worley Middle School.”
There are two “Meet the Teacher” nights during the school year for each semester. Throughout the year, parents and students can contact teachers through email or Canvas.
“My favorite part of teaching is when kids get something that we’ve been talking about,” Hallack said. “I care about them and I want them to do well.”
