Wheeling Our Way Into Homecoming

At today’s homecoming pep rally a new tradition will be unveiled for the first time. In previous years organizations would collect items in a basket that had a chosen theme to be raffled off. This year, however, the baskets will be replaced with red wagons.

“I am a graduate from Arlington High School, and they have been doing the red wagon parade for years during homecoming,” said

English teacher Ryan Golden. “I always thought it was a fantastic idea in order to get more students involved in the homecoming festivities.”

The red wagon parade is directed by Mrs. Golden, who is in charge of StuCo, and the hope is that this will become the new tradition for homecoming. The various donations that are collected by different organizations will go the Mansfield Cares organization where they will distribute the supplies to those who need them.

“Key Club is collecting socks for our red wagon and I like the idea of bringing the school together to donate to a good cause! It was pretty hard to find a red wagon but it will include our theme this year, Service Inc., which is like Monsters Inc.” said senior Frankie Scarborough, president of Key Club.

The wagons are decorated to portray each specific organization and the goal is to completely fill the wagons with specific supplies chosen by each organization. During the pep rally up to four representatives from each organization will wheel their red wagon in the parade to show how much they have donated.

The Red Wagon drive is now wheeling itself into Mansfield’s homecoming week and will become the new tradition here at our school. It’s a new way of getting the school pumped for homecoming while giving back to the community.
