Band Advances to Area

Because the band scored ones all around at the UIL contest on Oct. 12, they will compete at the area contest Saturday to see if they will qualify for state.

“The band has been working hard since summer band in late July,” Assistant Band Director David Dunbar said. “Countless hours of individual practice, sectionals, full band rehearsals, performances and contests have given the group (the) confidence to perform at a high level.”

The band will perform at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Pennington Field (1501 Central Dr, Bedford, TX 76022).

“The contest is open to the public,” Dunbar said. “Admission is $5.00 for adults, free for children 10 and under and seniors 65 and over. We’d love to see as many MHS Band fans in the stands cheering the students on.”

Junior Connor Smeby said he believes the band has a chance to advance from area onto state.

“I think we will do very well,” he said. “We have a very good show this year and lots of talented musicians.”

Sophomore Eliana Sqrow said she is excited about how far the band has come this year.

“(Making) it to area doesn’t always happen,” she said. “I am really hoping that, as a band, we move on to state.  But for now, area is a great start to that.”

Dunbar said the students’ hard work has already made this year’s marching season a success.

“The entire group has been phenomenal,” he said. “Students are dedicated, hard working and genuinely care for one another. Our band family seems stronger than ever.”
