The Perot Museum will host prom on May 20th, followed by Gold Rush at the school. The theme for prom is ‘Viva La Vida’ with a fun, vibrant and elegant view.

“We’ve put a lot of hard work into making this a memorable night and we’re looking forward to celebrating together,” senior representative Aidan Esquivel said.

Friday is the last day for ticket prices to be $90 and will increase to $100 from May 1st to May 12th.

“Until May 12, seniors can add guests even if they’ve already turned in their own permission slips,” bookkeeper Stephanie Cranford said. “Students and guests need a copy of their photo ID’s along with the permission slip.”

Check-in is from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Prom ends at 11:30 p.m. Seniors and guests must have their prom tickets and a current photo ID to check in.

“Beverages will be located on all floors,” student body secretary Hannah Aquino said. “Fruit Kabobs on level one, coffee, pastries and mac ‘n cheese bar on level three, the elote bar on level two and the dessert station on level four.”

Prom court voting opens on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The top 6 boys and top 6 girls will be selected as nominees for prom king and queen. The selection started with school staff nominating seniors who they think represent the school well. Seniors who received the most nominations are on the ballot for Thursday.

“You can vote for queen and king at prom,” Aquino said “It starts at 8 p.m. and ends at 8:45 p.m. The senior superlatives and the winners of prom king and queen will be announced at 9 p.m.”

Gold Rush is a long-standing tradition hosted by MHS Parent Teacher Student Association [PTSA] members in which seniors and their guests can enjoy a drug and alcohol-free event after prom. It will be at the school from midnight to 4 a.m.

“You do not have to go to prom to attend Gold Rush,” Gold Rush Chair Rochelle Chelette said. “It is a completely separate event from prom. It gives students a chance to hang out with friends before graduation in a casual environment.”

Check in is from 12:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. and there will be no admittance after that time. Drawings for the prizes will start at 3:00 a.m. By providing monetary and gift donations to be used for gold rush you can earn tickets for admission and prizes. $100 – 1 Golden Raffle Ticket, $250 – 1 Gold Rush Ticket, $500 – 2 Gold Rush Tickets and $1,000 – 1 Golden Raffle Ticket & 2 Gold Rush.

“We’ll have a host of games along with a DJ keeping the party going,” Chelette said. “Of course, there will be a casino (blackjack tables, poker, roulette and craps) as well as different types of photo booths. My hope is that every attending senior enjoys the event and makes memories they will always cherish.”
