This week’s teacher is Becke Smith. She is an English 1 teacher and this is her 28th year teaching.
Q: What high school did you attend?
A: I attended Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, New Mexico, for grades 9-11. In my senior year, we moved to a tiny town in Colorado, and I graduated from Ft. Morgan High School in Ft. Morgan, Colorado.
Q: What was your favorite class or teacher when you were a student?
A: My favorite class in high school was my AP Lit class, taught by Mrs. Judy Carruth. She is actually the reason I became a teacher!
Q: What made you want to become a teacher?
A: The real reason is that I loved school. I also love making things make sense as a teacher.
Q: What was your favorite hobby as a student?
A: My favorite hobby as a student included reading, writing, and photography.
Q: What is your favorite memory of high school?
A: My favorite memory was actually my AP Lit class. We had a small class—there were 9 of us. We also were all in the AP Calculus class. The other 8 are now all engineers. I am the only English teacher.
Q: Do you have any advice for students?
A: My advice is to embrace lifelong learning. Always be curious, and never stop being a student and surround yourself with people who challenge and inspire you. Make personal growth part of your mindset
