Members of theater help move the stage of Beauty and the Beast to the MISD Center for the Performing Arts.

The musical, Beauty and Beast, is right around the corner and not only is it stressful for cast, but also for the costume, makeup, and tech team. Last Sunday, the cast and tech team had what they call the “Move-In” day, where they take the set down from the school, pack it in trucks with all of the props, costumes, and makeup needed for the production and send it off to the MISD Center for the Performing Arts.

“The Move-In is crucial because we are performing at the PAC so it’s absolutely important to move everything over there and set up so we can start improving and making the final touches to the show,” said stage manager Alexis Milam.

Rehearsal started at 7am for the tech team, 9am for the costume/makeup team, and 11am for the cast. The goal of the Move-In for the tech team is to learn music, lighting, and prop cues, as well as fix any issues with the set and props.

“During the Move-In, costume and makeup worked on finishing costumes and organizing the dressing rooms by placing the costumes we had done in alphabetical order,” said costume/makeup team member Valerie Frizzell.

Costume designer, Daisy Estrada, and assistant makeup designer, Sydney Toledo, worked on finishing costumes and practiced how to do makeup and hair for the cast. The rest of the costume and make up crew helped set up the dressing rooms and took inventory on what each person had.

“My experience during the Move-In was exciting because I have never done it before and I really felt like I was part of the theater department,” Toledo said.
