Student Profile: Aaron Funk

This student profile shines the spotlight on Mansfield High School’s varsity quarterback Aaron Funk. I had the opportunity to interview him about his life, future career, interests, and involvement with the game of football. 

Q: How long have you played football?

A: Fourteen years.

 

Q: Why do you play football?
A: For the comradery and the love of the game.
Q: Do you think the comradery in football is stronger than in other sports?

 

A: Yes.
Q: How did you become a quarterback?
A: My dad was a quarterback; he pushed me to keep playing the game and I’m glad for it.
Q: Do you see yourself as a leader on the team?
A: Yes, it comes in hand with being a quarterback.
Q: What’s your favorite part about the game of football?
A: The playoffs and traveling.
Q: Where do you want to go to college?
A: I’m not really sure yet but I’m considering Oklahoma State University and Texas Tech University.
Q: Do you plan on pursuing football in college?
A: No. I also play baseball and plan on pursing that. I’ve been playing it for fourteen years also and I like it better than football.
Q: What do you plan on doing if you don’t have success with your baseball career in college?
A: I am considering being a physical therapist or an insurance agent.
Q: Do you have any other passions besides sports?
A: Friends.
Q: What do you do in your free time?
A: My whole life revolves around sports and being busy all the time. I spend a lot of time with my friends, girlfriend, and family.
Q: Is there a stereotype about football players that you think is true?

 

A: That we’re always with each other.
Q: Is there a stereotype about football players that you think is not true?

 

A: That the players are unintelligent.
Q: Have you learned any skills on the field that apply to your life outside of the field?

 

A: I’ve learned how to be punctual and how to rely on people.
Q: Do you think your life would have been different if you didn’t play football?

 

A: Yes, I would have less friends. I’m not sure what I would be doing.
