Student Profile: Mariah Cannon

All-in. Two words that hold an abundance of meaning for the Tiger softball team, and varsity player Mariah Cannon. That is the team’s theme for the year and the definition is quite simple, everybody will give their all in workouts or games. They will have a fighting spirit and make it as far into district playoffs as possible.

Senior Mariah Cannon is taking the theme seriously and is dedicated to helping the team reach their goal for the year.

“Everyday I look forward to ninth block when I can go practice with the team,” Cannon said.

Cannon has been playing softball all her life and has been a part of the high school team for all four years. Cannon has earned a spot on the varsity team for two years, and although games have not started she hasn’t lost any of her drive, and is looking forward to the beginning of the season.

“When the season starts in January, things get even more fun because we get to play two games a week,” Cannon said.

Along with participating in softball, Cannon also has a heavy class load of TCC dual credit courses and an advanced math class.

“Being in softball had just made high school so much more fun,” Cannon said.

Fun seems to be the name of the game for the varsity team this coming year. The girls have grown close and would not want to play the sport with anyone else.

“My favorite part of being on the team is the people,” Cannon said.”My teammates are so much fun to be around as well as our coaches.”

Laughs and good times aside, Cannon and the rest of the team have their hearts set on making it to state this year.

“Winning a game makes me feel like we are accomplishing our goal a little more with every game,” Cannon said.

Cannon keeps herself focused on the big pictures of making it as far as possible into playoffs and having a good time making memories with her teammates. The softball field is almost a second home to her at this point and there is no place she would rather be.
